When it comes to critical acclaim, dramas tend to dominate the awards shows and reviews with top scores. Dealing with important issues in the history of the world often demand sober, nearly melodramatic pieces for creators to feel they have treated their weighty topics with respect. One of the best ways to deal with complex issues, though, comes not from the somber, dramatic scene, but by the appeal to humor to better understand the human condition. Not always easy to accomplish tactfully, the best famous comedians dazzle crowds with sharp attention to the world around them with an air of lightness that dramas rarely reach.

One of most prestigious of famous comedians, Bill Cosby has set an impressive standard for comics in a world dominated by television. His earliest work had no focus on race relations, an approach toward comedy from a black man few would expect now. Bill Cosby thrived on humor that people of any race could relate to without having to make his own race inferior. With time, Cosby defined himself as one of the greatest famous comedians through his subtle expression of African-American culture on his various shows, such as through highlighting black jazz musicians, artists, and perhaps most importantly, fully formed nuclear families. Setting a bar for ensuing famous comedians, Cosby centered on the home and development for all people as it grew out of said home.

Steve Martin also makes for one of the most talented of famous comedians. Besides writing for TV, much like many famous comedians, Martin also boosted his career with his musical talents. Newer fans of Martin may have no clue he had had a single in the top 20 of the nation in the 70s. His song covering the then-popular King Tut ascended the charts and helped Steve Martin to one of several Grammies, not to mention etching his name indelibly on the list of famous comedians in America.

Bill Murray and Chris Rock also made major impressions as famous comedians. Both had major stints on “Saturday Night Live,” as did Martin, and used the show as a springboard for far greater success in films and TV since then. Bill Murray managed a career as a talented dramatist beyond an assured spot as among famous comedians. Chris Rock proved no slouch in the acclaim department, as well, though rarely turning away from comedy. Even his highly popular evaluations of the 1996 election touched on the clearly important decision before people of the U.S., but always with a punchline.

Jerry Seinfeld, of all famous comedians, made the most significance out of what many would find totally mundane. Evading the standard topics of comedy, Jerry Seinfeld instead relied on the comedy of everyday life. In a way, he managed to elevate the life of the common human being, thereby showing the significance of important topics affects the proletariat and bourgeois alike.

More than crying at end of an epic film or growing distraught at the sight of a shocking scene, famous comedians enlighten the world, almost disarmingly, with their comedy. So long as people exist, they will have problems; so long as people have problems, they will need their comedy.
